Holy Avtar Vani - Shabad No. 28
Sabar sidak da chola hove tera ik sahara rahe;
Sadhu reh ke duniyan andar vang kamal de nyara rahe.
Tere andar khave peeve tere andar dera rahe;
Ganga vangun nirmal hove na tera na mera rahe.
Na hindu na muslam jane bhed na sikkh isai da;
Uchcha ho ke neevan samjhe maan nahin danaee da.
Sabar shanti te sam-drishti santjanan da gehna ey;
Santjanan da vadda zevar bhane andar rehna ey.
Sant hari de mittar mere kol subah te sham mere;
Kahe avtar inhan santan nun lakkhan hi parnam mere.
Meaning
A saint dresses up his life with patience and perseverance and relies only on Thee. Even while staying in the marsh of this World, he remains afloat like a Lotus. He eats drinks and dwells in You, O Almighty God! He is as pure as the holy Ganges and to him there is no me and mine. He does not discriminate between a Hindu and a Muslim, a Sikh and a Christian. He is lofty, yet considers himself humble and he is not proud of his wisdom. True saints are decorated with the ornaments of patience, peace and equable vision. Among these ornaments, their finest ornament is their surrender to the divine well. The devotee saints are my friends and accompany me all the time. Avtar says, I bow unto these saints a million times.
